The auto insurance laws in Massachusetts have been changed, and this market is not the same as before.
A few years ago, when you went to buy auto insurance you could not be picky about the price, because the rates were defined by the State. So what insurance company you went to was pointless since the rates were predefined. However, that situation has come to an end because now there is a lot of competition between these companies. The reason for this is that more and more insurance companies are emerging, and each is fighting to bring the other one down. The number of auto insurance companies in Massachusetts is around 31, and they are competing against one another for price, service and product.
From the point of view of consumers, the law has changed for good. First, the consumers had to get the insurance for a price fixed by State, but now they are free to go to whichever company they wish according to their preference. A study showed that the year the new law was implemented, consumers in Massachusetts have saved up to 270 million dollars.
